Press Release

Saving your Family’s history has suddenly got a lot more affordable.

There aren’t many families in Australia that don’t have a collection of slides hidden away in a dark cupboard. Those slides are silently crying out for help. Pictures of family holidays, weddings, babies and barbecues – all fading to blank, growing mould or turning to dust.

Sydney, February 13, 2006:

SlidesOnDVD.com.au introduces its SOS (Save Our Slides) Free Trial.

Okay, we’d be the first to admit that some slides should never be allowed to see the light of day again … uncle Stuart in “those” shorts, those hideous bride’s maid dresses for Sharon’s wedding, the endless baby on a rug pictures. But who would ever believe that Aunt Ruth was such a vamp if they didn’t see it in glorious Kodachrome? And who was that gorgeous chick that Dad used to hang out with … surely that couldn’t be your mother?

Aside from all the dross, slide collections contain a wealth of family history; first cars, first houses, first loves, first trips overseas, first borns. These days visiting the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s is not so easy. The projector has been thrown out, or the bulb has blown and can’t be replaced. The projector screen is in shreds.

We will scan your precious slides using our top of the range Nikon Slide Scanner. We’ll put the images on to a special kind of disc which you can …

>> View on your TV as a slideshow using your DVD player.

>> Put into your computer’s CD drive (NB you don’t need a DVD drive) to view, print and manipulate the individual images. You can add captions, music or commentary, and make your own slideshow.

>> Take to one of those Picture Printing Consoles (that seem to be popping up everywhere) and print off any of the images you like.

>> If your computer has a CD burner you can make as many copies as you like for all the family.

Other slide scanning services can cost as much as $2-$3 per slide. We’ve got that down to just 44 cents for large quantities and less than a dollar for small numbers. And the service includes much more than just scanning slides.

No matter how carefully you store your slides there will always be a slow degradation of the celluloid film. We can correct for most of that colour fade and increased graininess. We can remove dust and scratch marks. Once an image is digitized it will never decay or get dusty!

And now you can try our service for free. So if you think you’ll get a better result from one of our more costly competitors, or you think you can get good results using your own flatbed scanner, or you think your slides are beyond saving – just send us a slide and we’ll email you back the results.
